The Lodge

Arroyo Claro Lodge has four spacious double guest rooms, each with a private, full bathroom. We have an upgrade policy at the lodge which is as follows: As long as we have availability we will provide our guest with the option to have a room for themselves and not having to share with their fishing companion. But if you request a single room and single guide, for a small extra fee we can arrange it.
The food is wonderful. Breakfast and dinners will be served at the lodge, preceded by a cocktail hour either on the patio or by the fireplace, depending on the weather. Usually if the weather is nice we will cook a lamb on the pit for dinner at least once a week.
Here guests enjoy “asado,” which is a traditional and very popular meal in Argentina, consisting of beef, lamb and sausage, all cooked together on a grill over hot coals. There will also be home baked bread, salad, dessert and plenty of vino tinto.
Part of the fun is relaxing and taking in the scenery while your hosts tend an oversized, smoking grill. Most other meals are taken in the dining room of the main lodge or on the stream. The lodge specializes in local produce and creative national dishes, paired with a selection from an extensive wine list.

Cholila Valley

“Cholila Valley” is a place in Patagonia, surrounded by rivers and lakes.

The lodge is strategically located within reach of the best waters in the valley. These rivers have a vast population of rain- bow and brown trout, occasionally you`ll have chances of hooking a landlocked salmon and brook trout depending on the area you are fishing.

The rivers you will fish are:
The Carrileufu, winding river in an open valley, we suggest you have two rigged rods, a 5 and a 7 weight, the lightest one with a floating line on.

The heavier one with a sinking tip for example a density compensated 200 grains line with a 24 foot sinking tip.
The Rivadavia, a fairly short river but with an incredible diversity of waters… you`ll be into deep pools, fast moving shoots and slow eddies, also the mouth of a crystal clear spring creek full of spooky fish. Mainly rainbows and Browns in this river. Equipment suggested: a soft action 5 weight and a 6 or 7 weight. both rigged and ready for action. Nymphs can be the main source of food in certain spots of the river, so long leaders with strike indicators and a soft tip rod is the way to go.
El Canal Spring Creek, winding crystal clear spring creek, in the forest and the way to fish it in many places requires the bow and arrow cast, you will be helped by your guide. Big fish up to 15pds can be found here, they might be very difficult to catch though it is always an incredible experience to have a cast at them.

Traditional trout patterns such as elk hair caddis, Adams, parachute Adams and humpies, royal wolf, etc. size 20 thru 12

Programs

The Head guide designs each fishing itinerary to suit the season, angler preference, and the size of each group. Days, of course, are typically spent exploring the expansive trout waters in the surrounding country.
The beautiful Carrileufu flows within sight of Arroyo Claro. The best way to access the Carrileufu is by floating the river and getting out to wade fishy looking water. However, some stretches are best fished from the raft, casting to the riverbank. Half-day trips on the Carrileufu are easily arranged. The driving time to and from the river is quite short, which is not the norm for many South American fishing lodges. The Rivadavia is a little further from the lodge; about twenty minutes by car. The Rio Chubut is also close by, where adventurous guests can enjoy a 3-day float trip.
If the duration of the stay with us is more than 10 days, we could include options like a road trip to Chile or the Rio Pico region down south.
Catch and release regulations imposed on the Carrileufu several years ago have greatly enhanced the size and population of trout in this river. Rainbows and browns up to 27 inches have been taken by Arroyo Claro guests on dry flies. These incredibly strong trout run and jump like steelhead and have been described by clients as “trout on steroids”. The Carrileufu is also one of the best rivers in Argentina for landlocked Atlantic salmon, particularly in November and March.
the domestic airport called Aeroparque “Jorge Newberry”, where you can connect to domestic flights into Esquel or Bariloche on a daily basis.
Ask for our assistance if you need to arrange transfers and if you wish to book a hotel in Buenos Aires, we would be pleased to help you!
